Major Trauma Prevention
An effective and inclusive Major Trauma System can serve to prevent trauma. It will do so by providing the infrastructure for the co-ordinated sharing of detailed data, expertise and best practice between providers, utilise key experts and work collaboratively with multi-agency partners across acute hospital trusts, ambulance services, clinical commissioning groups, NHS England, Department of Health, Public Health England and Local Authorities.
Major Trauma Prevention can define key themes. For example, the Major Trauma population identified in the UK is becoming more elderly, and the predominant mechanism that precipitates major trauma is a fall from less than 2m. Improvements in associated outcomes from major trauma can be applied by targeting the specific needs of the elderly as part of major trauma development.
Major Trauma Prevention will therefore be a key part of the South Yorkshire Major Trauma Work Programme going forward relative to both Adults and Children.
